The opportunity

As Infrastructure Analyst, you'll play a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing The Openwork Partnership's IT infrastructure.
 
Your responsibilities will include monitoring system performance, addressing security events, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of servers, networks, and other vital IT elements. Additionally, you'll focus on implementing vulnerability management to safeguard data and IT assets, alongside maintaining comprehensive documentation and reports on system performance and challenges.

You will also contribute to business continuity by maintaining backups and disaster recovery processes, and 
actively participate in scaling our IT capabilities by adhering to capacity management protocols and proactively identifying potential issues or bottlenecks. Within the user support area of the Technology department, you'll serve as an escalation point for infrastructure-related concerns, ensuring optimal service delivery to customers. 
 
Hybrid role, based 2 days a week in our Swindon office.

Your role:
  • Monitor, identify, and mitigate vulnerabilities within the IT infrastructure to protect against potential threats and keep the infrastructure secure.
  • Continuously monitor the performance, availability of IT systems and capacity, including servers, networks, and data centres, to ensure optimal operations.
  • Maintain and tune the monitoring systems to underpin a proactive and responsive service.
  • Analyse system performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability
  • Provide advanced technical support for complex issues that cannot be resolved by 1st and 2nd line support teams
  • Manage and perform regular backups of critical systems and data to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures
  • Diagnose and resolve infrastructure related issues promptly to minimise downtime and ensure business continuity
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes and operating procedures
  • Work closely with our inhouse teams and key strategic partners
  • Assist in the identification of underlying causes of incidents (technical/process)
  • Assist in performing ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimisation
  • Work towards participating in the out of office support rota
  • Keep up to date with technology trends, tools, practices and bring these ideas into the team participating in technical initiatives, option definition and implementation

What will you need to succeed?

Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management or a similar role
  • Proficiency in network administration, server management
  • Experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning
  • Experience with monitoring tools, experience with Azure monitor would be advantageous
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure and Microsoft365
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware
  • Working within a structured environment with and understanding of ITIL and Agile methodologies
  • Analysing system performance and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability
  • Carrying out system upgrades
Knowledge: 
  • Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD 
  • DNS and DHCP
  • Group Policy Management
  • Scripting e.g., PowerShell
  • Knowledge of security best practices and tools for protecting IT infrastructure
Skills and Competencies:
  • Be able to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand language for stakeholders and internal teams
  • Have a professional attitude and lead by example work ethic
  • Have the ability to multi-task and stay organised in a dynamic work environment.
  • Be analytical and inquisitive, with excellent attention to detail
  • Be credible, confident, and articulate, with excellent communication and presentation skills and the gravitas to deliver ideas clearly and concisely to internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • Be reliable, flexible, and cooperative
  • Be diplomatic and tactful
  • High degree of pragmatism and highly motivated with a strong end user computing background
