The opportunity

Your main responsibility in this Senior Data Governance Manager position is to build the Data Governance function, in line with the Openwork Data Strategy, to ensure that the Openwork Group has access to high quality and trusted information to assess performance, provide insight, and inform decisions.

This is a hybrid role based in our Swindon office - given that restrictions are now lifting, we will ideally be looking for the successful candidate to be based in the office 1-2 days a week, with the option to work from home the remainder of the time. 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Implement a significant part of the data strategy, building the data quality function.
  • Define the data policy and control framework, including standards and controls, and the related governance.
  • Finding key data quality Initiatives and shepherding them through development.
  • Chairing the Data Governance Council and ensuring it builds the right data culture across Openwork.
  • Monitoring data quality via reporting, setting standards and ensuring data improvement.
  • Build data governance capability across the organisation.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand requirements and set expectations of what will be delivered.
  • Provide coaching to data consumers to utilise tools to access, understand, and interpret datasets and reports.
  • Assist in identifying and overcoming data deficiencies and gaps in analytical capabilities.
  • Build effective relationships across the Openwork Partnership to drive the change needed.
  • Significant contribution to building the Openwork Data Community to ensure best practice across the Partnership.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Significant experience in data quality, ensuring data is delivering maximum value and minimising risk.
  • Experience of using data quality measurement via software (such as Ataccama), as part of a strong governance programme.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding of Dimensional modelling concepts.
  • Understanding of SQL, ETL, and other data structuring concepts.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, VBA, and Microsoft Power BI (or similar visualisation tool).
  • Numerate and investigative – gets to the root of problems and does not accept the first answer.
  • Skills in identifying and analysing problems, identifying & evaluating options, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to apply judgement to situations requiring balance between time and accuracy.
  • Excellent stakeholder managements skills.
