The opportunity

This is a 12-month fixed term contract, field based role.

As a Training and Competence Manager you will ensure the effective delivery of Training and Competence (T&C) quality and risk oversight with a team of Supervision experts to Openwork’s Partner Firms, Advisers and practice supervisors.

You will create a high-performing, collaborative and motivated team through strong leadership, direction, performance management and engagement.

You will also ensure robust resource management and planning, budget controls, reporting mechanisms and communication channels are in place to support the effective running of the T&C team.

Additionally, you will adopt a continuous improvement approach to all things: seeking to evolve ways of working aligned to Openwork’s strategic aims.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure the effective delivery of Supervision according to Openwork’s Assurance Model and Supervision Framework
  • Ensure effective oversight and engagement of Practice Supervisors
  • Manage performance of a team to deliver Supervision with engagement, collaboration, using effective root cause analysis and remedial actions which evidence good customer outcomes being achieved and which influence positive attitudes and behaviors towards conduct, and competence
  • Using MI/Data to identify trends and patterns to inform priorities.
  • Ensure resource and budget planning is effective and optimised.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Mortgage Advice Qualification (essential).
  • Hold a Level 4 Diploma qualification (essential).
  • Hold a Supervisory qualification H15 or J07 or committed to complete this within 12-months in role.
  • Holds or committed to complete Equity Release Qualification within 12-months in role.
  • Ensure own competence as a Supervisor is maintained to perform role and up to date CPD/SPS/SOS status where appropriate.
  • Demonstrable experience effectively leading and managing a team of professionals in a regulated environment.
  • Min 2 years’ experience Supervising Advisers and providing technical guidance and direction as a subject matter expert.
  • Evidence of using a data driven approach to drive impactful supervisory interventions.
  • Knowledge working with specialist licences (for example Equity Release).
  • Evidence of strong understanding of the FCA T&C handbook and broad understanding of the wider regulatory environment.
  • Experience applying FCA handbook expertise with confidence and flexibility across a wide range of situations.
  • Evidence of creating risk and quality remediation plans suitable for root cause and achieving good client outcomes.
