The opportunity

This is a key role within the Finance team, as the Management Accountant you will provide end‑to‑end financial management and insight across the operational cost base by delivering high‑quality cost reporting, analysis, and forecasting, and by partnering closely with Cost Centre Managers and senior stakeholders.

The role requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insight for senior leadership.

This is a 16 month fixed term contract hybrid role, based in our Swindon office.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Support and manage the operational cost base, including tracking actuals, accruals, and variances to Budget and prior year.
  • Develop an understanding of cost drivers, trends, and risks and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and savings.
  • Maintain and develop FTE and resource cost reporting, providing clear analysis against Budget, Forecast, and prior year.
  • Work alongside the Cost Finance Business Partner to prepare the annual Budget and quarterly Forecasts.
  • Challenge assumptions to improve forecast accuracy and cost discipline.
  • Provide clear explanations of variances between actuals, Budget, and Forecast.
  • Produce high‑quality monthly cost management reporting with insightful commentary for senior stakeholders.
  • Deliver clear and concise analysis highlighting key variances, risks, and opportunities
  • Act as a trusted finance partner to operational stakeholders.
  • Provide ad‑hoc analysis to support cost‑related projects and initiatives, including any cost‑saving programmes.
  • Influence decision‑making through robust analysis and constructive challenge
  • Support external audit requirements by providing clear, accurate, and timely information.
  • Proactively review existing processes and support improvements to systems, controls, and reporting.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and data quality.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Ideally you will be a qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA), however, part qualified applicants considered. 
  • Experience in management accounting, cost management, budgeting, and performance reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and explain data and variances.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including automation; experience maintaining or enhancing macros.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality PowerPoint presentations for senior stakeholders with insightful commentary.
  • Experience of operational or resource‑driven cost environments.
  • Exposure to finance transformation and system implementation.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive, professional attitude.
