The opportunity

The Head of Software Engineering is a senior leadership role accountable for the successful delivery of software within The Openwork Partnership. Leading multiple development teams working under an agile framework, you'll work closely with the Head of Infrastructure and Cloud, Head of Architecture and Change teams to help shape and deliver best in class solutions for our advisors and firms.

You'll bring established technology, people and process leadership experience, and will be up to date with the latest technology trends. You should have a keen interest in fintech, want to craft solutions that build IP and integrate solutions that fill the overall landscape that we want to deliver.

Your responsibilities:
  • Leading the technical delivery of the software engineering function and teams. 
  • Agreeing the functional roadmap alongside change partners within the business. 
  • Prioritising demand to improve business value, ensuring efficiency and value is being realised.
  • Managing contract, outsource and FTE development resource.
  • Producing and communicating resource plans to ensure optimal mix.
  • Full budget control.
  • Governing the full production process, ensuring continuous deployment and delivery practices are embedded. 
  • Working with the architecture team to help shape designs, providing oversight across the development teams to realise solutions, ensuring a consistent and robust architecture is implemented and adhered to.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Experience of leading and implementing cross functional change for People, Process and Technology
  • Experienced working with modern technology including building application using C#, .Net Core, SQL, Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure App Services and integrating with CRM based solutions, using plugins where appropriate
  • Solution driven, highly motivated and with a software engineering background.
  • A natural leader, able to translate complex technical concepts into easy to understand language for stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Ability to drive the vision, design, strategy, and implementation of integrated web systems in order to support the Partnership.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organised in a dynamic work environment
  • Credible, confident and articulate, with outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent communication and presentation skills and the gravitas to deliver ideas clearly and concisely to internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • Natural leadership skills with the confidence to build, develop and mentor development teams
  • Ambitious in nature and looking to continue your career development
  • Personable and approachable, with an enthusiastic and motivational nature.
