The opportunity

As a Technical Architect, you will combine broad, hands-on experience across technology solutions with expertise in cloud, microservices, and integration, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and modern development patterns. 

Your architectural vision will directly shape the digital experience for thousands of advisers and clients, helping us deliver secure, scalable, and cutting-edge solutions. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our technology landscape, ensuring that every solution - from cloud platforms to business applications - is secure by design and aligned with our strategy. 

This is a permanent, hybrid role, based in our Swindon office, with the requirement to be in the office 3 days a week.

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design and evolution of Openwork’s technology landscape, ensuring our architecture is robust, future-ready, and aligned with business strategy. 
  •  Champion best practices in cloud, microservices, and integration, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and modern development patterns.
  • Mentor and inspire engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Play a pivotal role in our Technical Design Authority, shaping standards and guiding major technology decisions.
  • Drive the migration from legacy systems to modern, cloud-native platforms, unlocking agility and new capabilities.
  • Collaborate Broadly: Work with solution, data, and infrastructure architects to deliver integrated, secure architectures that enable business outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Empathetically translate complex security and technology concepts into business language for senior leaders and delivery teams.
  • Technology Leadership: Provide input into standards, reference architectures, and target operating models. 

What will you need to succeed?

  • Cloud Platforms & Modern Development: Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, especially Microsoft Azure, and modern development patterns such as microservices and integration strategies.  
  • Microsoft Solutions: Proficiency in Microsoft-based technologies, including Azure, Office 365, Entra ID, Dynamics, .NET, and API management.
  • Integration & Migration: Experience integrating third-party systems and driving migration from legacy systems to modern platforms.
  • Regulatory Requirements: Understanding of compliance standards, including Data Protection, Financial Crime, Code of Conduct, Health and Safety, and Financial Conduct Authority Standards.
  • Evaluating New Technologies: Capability to evaluate and introduce new technologies, tools, and frameworks to keep the organization at the forefront of digital innovation
  • Systems Design: Knowledge of designing and developing IT architecture solutions to business problems, including technical planning and architecture development.  
  • Integration Across Technologies: Understanding compatibility and integration of products/services to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies.
  • Financial Services & Regulated Environments: Experience as a technical, solution, or application architect, ideally within financial services or regulated sectors.
